Feb 18, 2017 Noumea, New Caledonia

Where we are.

Cruising into port.

Entrance to city.

Trip on catamaran to snorkeling.  Great time, lots of fish, 3 ginormous turtles, 3 sharks.  Coral was the best I've seen on all the islands so far.  Healthy for once.

Cruising back to harbour.
Another new best friend.  "Merry" my buddy.  Name so because she was born on Christmas day.

Artwork at entrance to pier.

Obligatory license plates.

Cathedrale St. Joseph.  Built by convicts in the late 19th century.

Statue of Joan of Arc erected in 1908.

Interesting garage decorations - live palms.

Beautiful banyan tree.  Locals will huddle within to seek protection from bad storms.
Cool machinery at the New Caledonia machine.  Anybody know what these are?

How bout this one?  Anybody know what a "funky fripe"is?

Part of an optomologist store window display.

New Caledonia is part of France, but they want their independence.  Will they still be part of the European Union if they get it?

Cool graffiti on the side of an even cooler building that's in sad shape - picture below.

Sunset before heading out.

  1. Flavio told me about your blog the other day. Enjoying it! I don't know the name of the wild pig in your January 14th post. "Fred" was the cockatoo in Baretta. The people you visited in San Diego on January 25th look familiar. Where do I know them from? I was disappointed to see mostly green bananas in your January 13th and February 13th posts. I wish they were yellow, but seeing green bananas is better than seeing no bananas. "Funky Fripe" is funky vintage clothing. That machine is either a machine gun or a mechanical banana peeling device. And why is it called "Two Dollar Beach"? Admission? How amazing that we can communicate like this, and not Morse Code! Cheers!
