Feb 26, 2017 Akaroa, New Zealand

Where we are and where we're going.

Akaroa (Long Habour) in Maori, orginally the domain of Ngai Tahu paramount chief Temaiharanui.  In 1838 Fren Commander Jean Langlois traded goods for what he believed to e the entire peninsula and returned to France to encourage settlers to populate a new French colony.  Meanwhile, the British sent William Hobson to assume the role of lieutenant-Governor over all the land that could be purchased.  6 days before the French landed the British flag was raised in Akaroa.  The passengers decided to stay, which meant the first formal settlement under British sovereignty was comprised of 63 French and 6 Germans.

Spotted shag bird rookery.

The captain turned off the engines put on beautiful music and we just drifted.  I was fortunate enough to be able to film these majestic dolphins that came to play.
