Feb 23, 2017 Gisborne New Zealand

Where we are and where we're going.

Our escort into port.
Gisborne is the first New Zealand landfall for Captaion Cook 9 October 1769.  It is also the first city in the world to greet the sun each morning.

They're everywhere.
Mural on the side of the McDonald's building.
McDonald's fountain drinks.
Interesting wares for sale in a shop.
St Timothy's Anglican church.

Main drag of Gisborne with it's clock tower.

Interesting architecture on main street.

Representation of Maori canoe prow.

War memorial.
Obligatory license plate.

Thank you pictures from the kids of Gisborne.

Great ad.

Tour boat in the harbour.

Concealing wall around lumber yard.  Part of the deal in letting the company buy the land was to enclose the storage area.  The went even further and created Maori designs as part of it.  Logs are now one of the top exports of New Zealand.  They go to China and Japan for house building.

Areal views of city from overlook.

One of the beaches near Gisborne.

Statue of Captain Cook.

Old Gisborne jail.  Travelers could use the cells for overnight until a few years ago.
Milleneal wall.  Folks got their name engraved at the end of 1999 thinking the world was about to end.

Houses around Gisbourne.  Lot of art deco styles.

Whale tusk sculpture in the middle of town.
