Feb 21, 2017 Auckland, New Zealand day 1

Where we are and where we're going.

Next segment of the cruise - Auckland to Bali.

Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with a population of 1.3 million residents.  It's called the "City of the Sails" as most every family has some type of water craft.

First sight of land.
Our pilot coming on board.
Next door neighbour at the docks.
View of downtown Auckland from my veranda.
Poster in port building advertising Auckland at night.
Next door neighbour again.
They are everywhere.
Some of the more traditional architecture of Auckland.
Port building.
Notice the cartoon characters in the windows?
Wind powered traffic light.  Little turbine on top of pole.
Sculpture in lobby of office building.
Oh these kiwis are so polite.
Series of light standards surrounding the port facility.
Downtown Auckland from the other side of the bridge.
Fountain in front of the Auckland Anglican Cathedral.
Auckland Anglican Cathedral.
The Best Bloody Burgers In Town.
Old trans that run through one of their parks.
These two streets will never intersect in Toronto.

Views from and in the Skytower.

One of the upper support beams of the Skytower.
Doesn't even come close to the CN Tower, but still impressive.  Rises 1,176 feet or 328 metres and is the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere.  Includes the "Sky Walk" around the upper portion of the structure, "Sky Jumping" from the same area and a revolving restaurant.
View down through the plexiglass.

Obligatory license plate.  New Zeland doesn't have provinces or states and no designation on their license plates as to which country the car is from.
St Patrick's Catholic Cathedral.

Going away dinner for 4 ladies - Margo, Clydie, Valerie and Sandy.
